Wimbledon Village — A Contemporary Residence by Hoban Design

Tucked within the Wimbledon Village conservation area, I was commissioned by Hoban Design to photograph this 3,000 sq ft Edwardian house following a complete internal refurbishment — a transformation from a dated but well-built home into a bright, contemporary residence. As interior photographer in London for this project, my focus was on capturing the finished spaces with the clarity and warmth the renovation deserved.

Working through the house, I aimed to reflect the client’s clear vision that had shaped the design — every room reworked to deliver a fresh, considered aesthetic while still respecting the character and proportions of the original Edwardian building. From the ground-floor reception rooms to the upper bedrooms and bathrooms, the layout balances open, light-filled living spaces with quieter, more intimate corners — each photographed to show how the two coexist throughout the home.

Light played a key role throughout the shoot, drawing out the contrast between the home’s traditional bones — deep skirting, sash windows, ornate cornicing — and its updated interior, including fluted oak joinery, marble surfaces, and a considered mix of contemporary and antique furniture and art. Timber detailing recurs throughout the house, from the wardrobe joinery to the slatted bathroom walls, giving each room a warm, tactile quality that photographs particularly well against the crisp white backdrop of the walls. Even smaller details — door frames, staircases, hallway thresholds — were given the same care during the shoot, ensuring every corner of the house felt consistent with the wider design vision.
