Claremont Road — Interior Photography for Architecture:WK

Set in Teddington, this kitchen extension and refurbishment began life as a Design in a Day workshop with Architecture:WK, followed by planning approval for a full reimagining of the ground floor. As interior photographer in London for this project, I was commissioned by Architecture:WK to document the finished space once the build was complete.

The homeowners took the approved plans and worked directly with their own builders to bring the design to life, rather than staying on with the architects through construction — an unusual route, but one that clearly paid off. Around eighteen months after that first workshop, Architecture:WK were invited back to see the finished result, and brought me in to photograph it.

Dark green shaker cabinetry anchors the kitchen, paired with brass taps, handles and pendant lighting that catch the light throughout the day. A glass roof extension and skylights flood the space with natural light, while original architectural detailing sits alongside a bold, contemporary gallery wall of prints running from the kitchen through to the hallway. Reclaimed furniture and lighting feature throughout, from a vintage teak dining table to a jukebox tucked into the seating area — not always the easiest materials to source and finish well, but they give the space a set of unique, cost-effective and sustainable finishing touches you simply can’t buy off the shelf. A striking black-tiled bathroom carries the same confident material palette upstairs, pairing brass fixtures with a freestanding bathtub.

Shooting this project meant capturing how a set of considered architectural drawings translated into a genuinely personal, characterful home once built out. The result is a warm kitchen extension and bathroom refurbishment that feels well beyond the ordinary, and a project I was glad to spend the day photographing for Architecture:WK.
